Job Summary
 
This position is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient and damage –free delivery of new vehicles for an auto transport company transporting within a growing operating network.   The incumbent will utilize a combination of transportation management tools, resources and knowledge of Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) rules to facilitate deliveries of newly manufactured vehicles.   The Transportation Supervisor will be accountable for coordinating driving, loading and unloading activities of drivers and managing engagement and relationships to effectively deliver vehicles legally compliant and efficiently to satisfy contractual and customer requirements.   Depending on site location, the incumbent is responsible for daily interaction, reporting and customer relationships.  This position may physically reside at a terminal, rail ramp or plant site. 
 
Essential Functions
(List in order of importance)

  1. Dispatch and monitor loads utilizing the Transportation Management operating system; consider drivers’ hours-of-service, driver’s previous day’s trip, and size of load compared to size of transport truck.
  2. Serves as a liaison with Central Logistics to ensure that loads are distributed based on load factor, volume, driver’s availability within Hours of service rules, available equipment and driver’s personal needs.  
  3. Interacts daily with drivers by assigning loads and equipment.  Clearly communicate instructions regarding delivery of loads as they relate to location of dealerships, highway and weather conditions and other questions drivers may have relating to safe and on-time service delivery. 
  4. Accountable for ensuring drivers know and understand Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMSCR).  This includes monitoring and audit activities utilizing the On Board Computer System (Qualcom) and other operating and communication systems of Driver’s Record of Duty Status (Daily Log), pre-trip reporting, Drivers’ Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR) to ensure compliance of both DOT and Company rules and requirements. 
  5. Provide input in conjunction with Safety, monitor onboard computer reports and driving patterns to the driver and to terminal management. 
  6. Act as first line contact for incidents or issues that occur while the driver is on the road.  This includes supporting Safety and Quality support teams by ensuring that drivers are following reporting procedures set forth in the Driver Handbook and other Company policy and procedures. 
  7. Accountable for timely communication and distribution of monthly driver scorecards to driver associates. Coach drivers on any and all improvements the driver can make to Key Performance Indicators including productivity, efficiency, and damage record and safety metrics. 
  8. Assist with the coordination of maintenance of trucks with Transportation Shop; ensure adequate trucks are available to handle daily operations.
  9. Analyze data related damage / accident / safety ratios and identify and promote ways to enhance driver performance to meet necessary standards. 
  10. Communicate key issues and related information to driver group and pad coordinators.  This includes any supporting information that will improve driver relations including but not limited to:  submitting trips sheets; policy and procedure changes; payroll information; dispatch changes; holiday and time off administration; new benefit information; Driver Handbook and the use of associate tools such as Self-Service. 
  11. Generate operational reports and perform daily, weekly and monthly report on the network activities of the operation. 
  12. Interact with customers and report daily activities; trouble shoot and solve problems at the plant site.
  13. Maintain a load factor and loaded miles that are within set parameters (i.e., budgetary requirements, performance indicators).
  14. Arrange for delivery and pickup of units at the Friedkin Company Campus.
  15. Coordinate and communicate actions within GST Distribution and VPC Operations.
  16. Create loads for all customer traffic to include special events and expedites.
  17. Duties and special projects as assigned. 

 
Qualifications
Education And/Or Experience:
Associates degree and/or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; plus four to five years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.   Four-year degree preferred.

  3. Is able to communicate effectively, oral and written. Understand the importance of relationships with drivers and customers.
  4. Is able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  5. Demonstrate knowledge of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and applicable federal, state, and local truck weight and axle weight laws.
  6. Must be able to be available on site or on call within a 24-7 operation.

Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an associate encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  While the job is generally performed in an office environment, the associate is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, areas in which moving mechanical parts, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals are present, and outside weather conditions.  The noise level in the office environment is typically quiet, but the associate may be occasionally exposed to loud noise levels.  Minimal travel is required for this position (up to 20% of the time and on a domestic basis).
